Nurturing Courage and Competence: Parenting Your Child with Anxiety

The Children’s and Adult Center for OCD and Anxiety, a group of private practice psychologists with a specialty in treatment of childhood anxiety and OCD, is proud to present a workshop for parents. The goal is to help parents to understand the nature of anxiety and to help their children cope with it and flourish.

In the first meeting, we will teach parents about the nature of anxiety in children; how it impacts thoughts, feelings and behaviors, and how parents can use strategies to help their child cope with anxiety. The second meeting focuses on how to apply these child and parent strategies to typical difficult times with children with anxiety (e.g., school mornings, stomachaches, homework, bedtime, trying new things). Also, we will address how parents can take care of themselves so they can better take care of their children.

This is a 2 part series. Each session is 90 minutes long with question and answer periods and time to interact with other parents. The first and second sessions are held 2 weeks apart so parents can practice the strategies and get feedback on outcome.

Presenter: Lynne Siqueland, PhD

Location: online Zoom meeting

Fees: The fee for the 2 part workshop is $50 for one participant, $75 for two participants from the same family (e.g., mom/dad, mom/grandparent).

I will offer an in person version of the workshop above or another parent workshop focused on OCD:  Nurturing Courage and Competence- Helping Your Child Cope with OCD if there is sufficient interest.

A parent support and idea sharing group will be offered monthly for families who have completed the parent workshop or who have familiarity with cognitive behavioral strategies for child anxiety.

Email Lynne Siqueland at siqueland@pobox.com to express interest or for additional information.
